I feel like People in Port Elizabeth and in neighbouring little pockets tend at time look at South Africa and all its natural beauty as something that happens “over there”. Honey let’s take a trip to Cape Town so we can look at Pretty “African” things.

I know that there are quite a few images that were not taken in the Eastern Cape, but with such a breath taking body of work which could, through technical skill and aesthetic brilliance, been considered a celebration of the subject matter and the natural environment in which they occur. Which is a very long winded way of saying, thanks for making the Eastern Cape and the things in it look pretty, thus reminding us here that to see all the wonders of Africa we need only go outside… or to Addo.

John. The passion you feel for nature is shown in your photographs. They are awesome. You live in the most beautiful part of the Eastern Cape. PE and it’s surrounding areas can’t be beaten for its animals or scenery. My Mum grew up in Thornhill and my favourite place to visit when I’m in SA is Addo and it’s magnificent animals.

Your images are extraordinary, not just for their beauty, but because they capture unique emotions. They are alive. They indeed help those of us in the conservation movement that believe in the sentience of these creatures and help us fight for a better deal for them. Animals have no rights in South Africa; they should have. What your images do for them, is to instill at least an obligation on our behalf to give them their rightful place and right to existence. Thank you, John.

Hi John, As a fellow, regular traveler of the many twisty and winding roads in the Addo Elephant national park, I must simply say that your eye for a great photograph, not just a good one, a GREAT photograph is quite spell binding. You have the uncanny ability to capture not only the moment but the intricate and beautiful detail of the many creatures that surround us on a daily basis. Your action shots are amazing and the sensitivity of your compositions strike an emotional chord. Keep up the good work.

I seldom come across a professional website such as yours. I met your mother Ronnell Vosloo (die tanie wie nie skaam is nie, en wie baie kan gesêls. Nie dat ek omgegee het nie) at OR Tambo airport last night on here way to Australia. As a mother she can, justifiable talk non stop about your work. She was carrying an acid free print with her, for mounting in Australia. Unfortunately, I was not able to view this offering of yours, which I dearly would have liked to have done. I grew up in Uitenhage and went to school at Muir College my whole life. I started my photographic life in my early teens, with a Kodak Brownie Camera, ending up doing my own development of B&W film in an outside backroom, that my Dad helped me to establish.

I promised your mom that I would make the effort of contacting you. Not a difficult promise to live up to, in my opinion.

Thank you for being so generous in sharing your work. It is sincerely appreciate.

    Kind regards,

    Brian Basson, Brisbane, Australia.

Hi John. Thank you for sharing the sheer beauty of the magnificent Animals that you photograph with such great passion, attention to detail & masterful timing. Each one is a masterpiece bearing sentiment, untold physiological & anatomical information, exquisite compositing & lighting & superb respect for each Animal. Your Art & devotion to the Conservation of all the precious Animals you depict in each frame is not only of superior standard, but achieves the sentiments you evoke with each story told through your lenses. Makes my heart sing for each Animal, cry for my beloved country & miss the beauty of Addo Elephant Park & of my hometown, PE, where I was born. I attended Holy Rosary Convent in Western Road & lived centrally in PE. I moved to Australia where there are far fewer Animals species than in SA, but which are all unique & each beautiful & precious. Sadly many species here are also endangered, as in the rest of the world, as humans overtake all the free open Animal home space at an alarming rate & poison the Earth which we share with Animals. I believe that awareness is a strong tool in assisting Animal Survival & praise you for producing & sharing the M A G I C Animal portraits, stories & precious moments that you make & share here & on Facebook. Cheers & Best Regards. Carla Afrika
